Learning About Students Through Design
Prosumer
Students who become more metacognitive about their experience and provide feedback to build value and meaning in their work are prosumers. A prosumer is one who helps produce what they consume. Additionally, it is a customer of a product who helps in the construction of the product they intend to use. Assessing student engagement changes the role of a student from only the customer to a prosumer. This role is more of a leadership role.

Disciplined Designing
Heather Rogers, Ed. S.
Oglethorpe County High School
"Using instructional design strategies as a heuristic device is a more modern and universal approach to improving student learning because it encourages teachers to move away from “planning” activities and tests for students to simply complete. Instead, these strategies motivate educators to begin “designing” learning opportunities and assessment methods that students will find engaging and that have greater potential to lead to increased achievement for all students."
